Bleached

charcoal, chalk and sunlight on paper (2008)

A study from life class, the real star of Bleached is of course the sun. The coloured sugar paper I use for charcoal drawings is especially susceptible to the sun and in this case, a pile of paper was bleached by its light over time.

I tried to utilise this chance change in medium to emphasise the weight of the figure on the arms, and also hint at a light source in the drawing.
