Fire Flies

acrylic on canvas (2009)

Whilst in Canada on holiday I discovered Kroma acrylics. Made and sold exclusively from a small workshop in Vancouver, I was totally bowled over by the power of these colours and set about making a very vivid, bright canvas to utilise these pigments.

During the time that this canvas was evolving, news coverage was full of wild forest fires in Australia, and subconsciously I think this informed the painting, which became a depiction of the hot ferocity of a wildfire.

Fire Flies was exhibited at the Newberry Gallery at the Glasgow School of Art in March 2009.
