Moonlight and Gold

acrylic on canvas (2008)

Moonlight and Gold started off life, like many of my canvases, not in the orientation it appears here. The dark colour at the bottom was originally at the top of the canvas, creating the atmosphere of a dark forest, but the composition didn't work, so I flipped the canvas and gave it a bright but rich green 'sky'. The "slash and splash" effect here with the cadmium yellow is something I've used a lot since, and cadmium yellow is probably the tube of paint I have to replace the most often...

The title is from a Gerry Rafferty song.
